Fieldwork Services
Our fieldwork services include design and delivery of archaeological evaluation and mitigation through excavation, and recording and analysis of historic buildings and caves.
As a Registered Organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists each of our services is delivered to a verified standard.
Our team works with you to create proportionate and cost-effective fieldwork programmes for your project. Our project managers understand the need for economy in budgets and programmes, as well as the different forms development projects take and their particular issues. We use a combination of non-destructive methods (such as geophysical survey), traditional excavation and an expanding range of site-based digital recording techniques.
Working with clients in the aggregate industry such as CEMEX and TARMAC, we have implemented long-term, ongoing surveys and excavations that work around their schedule, minimising the risk of delay to the extraction programme. We have delivered programmes of work ranging from short watching briefs for private individual clients to years-long monitoring and excavation for large commercial companies such as VINCI and MUSE Developments.

Evaluations

Site evaluations are a key element in assessing the archaeological potential of a site and we provide the full range of techniques, from fieldwalking and geophysical surveys, to the monitoring of geotechnical investigations and trial trenching
Mitigation

We work alongside our clients to create the most efficient and effective mitigation of development impacts. We combine traditional fieldwork with digital techniques and non-destructive methods.

Historic Buildings

Our historic buildings service includes recording, scanning, analyzing and interpreting historical building fabric to better support planning and development projects.
Caves

Our cave specialists use existing records, inspections, laser surveys and geoarchaeological methods to find, survey, understand, and help to conserve Nottingham’s cave systems.
